Alexander Millar
to visit Yarm Gallery
We are delighted to announce that we will be hosting an exciting event on the 4th March 2006 when Alexander Millar, famous for his images of Gadgies & Gals and recent TV appearances in A Brush with Fame, visits our gallery. Alex will be spending a few hours with us and no doubt regaling us with lots of tales about his images, we also hope that he’ll put brush to canvas while he’s here.
Alexander Millar has recently taken the art world by storm. His naïve evocative paintings have a delicate mix of humour, sensitivity and nostalgia.
His work seems to capture a bygone age with his “Gadgies & Gals” – having life’s experiences etched into their characters. Inspiration for Millar comes from his Scottish childhood and the flat cap-wearing workers he endearingly calls his “Gadgies”.
“The gossiping old ladies standing on street corners, the tired old guy wandering home after a long hard day at work and the wee dog cocking it’s leg against the street lamp are all appealing and interesting to me. I see them all as different choreographed parts in a sort of street ballet”.
As well as many prints of new and current images we there will also be a selection of original oils and sketches available.
The exhibition will include "Homeward Bound", the first ever Atelier Collection by Alexander Millar: hand embellished and limited to an edition size of 95. The is anticipated to be a sell-out collection. Please click the thumbnail images below for more information.
The exhibition will be showing in the gallery from Friday 2nd March, if you would like any further information please contact the gallery. To reserve: contact 01642 789432/767733
